Alexander Carrol Dean Jr.'s Obituary
Alex was born as an only child in Dallas,Texas to Alex and Ruby Dean on July 16, 1931 and passed into the Heaven on June 6, 2017. He was raised on farm land that is now Parkland hospital. He graduated Crosier Tech in 1948 and enlisted in the Army. Upon completion of his service, he entered SMU and received his electrical engineering degree. His career started with what was then called Dallas Power and light and in the late ’50s he became a sales engineer for Kennecott copper and the Okonite Company followed by a long career as the national sales manager for Rockbestos Cable Company where he retired in 1993. He married Jackie Henderson in 1961 and became father to her 3 children in the process. Alex became a Docent at the Dallas Zoo in 1991, where he made many lasting friendships and was a regular fixture at the Gorilla Station for the next 25 years. Going out there each week was the highlight of his retirement. Alex had lunch every Tuesday and Thursday with his longtime friend of over 80 years, AI Baker. Alex, AI and another old friend Larry Florer, would rotate picking a lunch place and on our evening calls he would tell us what a great lunch he had eaten. He is predeceased by his wife, Jackie and is survived by his three children, Donna and Fred Inselman of Sterling, Colorado, Michael and Lynda Dean of Dallas, Texas and Larry Dean of Big Spring, Texas. He also has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, June 9, 2017 at Restland Funeral Home. The service for Alex will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, June 10, 2017 at in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Dallas Zoo.
