Alfonso Rodriguez, affectionately known as “Pancho” to his siblings and “Papi” to his beloved grandchildren, passed away on July 20, 2025, at the age of 78. A longtime resident of Van Alstyne, Texas, Alfonso was born on January 6, 1947, in Asherton, Texas, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez.
Born on January 6, 1947, in Asherton, Texas, Alfonso was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez and the proud brother to nine siblings. From a young age, he embraced the role of protector, mentor, and friend to his large and loving family.
Alfonso met the love of his life, Kathy Bono, in Garland, Texas. Their bond blossomed into a beautiful marriage that lasted 32 years. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and family. Alfonso and his brothers co-owned Hair Creations Salon in Garland, where he worked as a barber for 45 years. His skill, warmth, and humor made him a cherished figure in the community and a trusted friend to many.
A devoted father to seven children and a proud grandfather to seventeen grandchildren, Alfonso’s greatest joy was his family. He also leaves behind great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who adored him. He was a man of many talents—an accomplished oil painter, a lover of the outdoors, and a handyman who could fix just about anything. Whether tending to his yard or mentoring those around him, Alfonso did everything with care and heart.
Those who knew Alfonso remember him as caring, funny, and endlessly generous—someone who would give the shirt off his back without hesitation. He was a man of wisdom, kindness, and unwavering love. A great brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, his family says there truly was no one like him.
