Alford Loyd Harrison's Obituary
We celebrate the life of Alford Loyd Harrison, loving Husband, devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and loyal friend. He was born in Cumby, Texas on September 23, 1929, married the love of his life, Marie Arrington, on October 23, 1948 and passed from this life March 27, 2009. Brother Al, as he was known to most of us, was preceded in death by parents James Robert Harrison and Louella Ragsdale, brother James Tony Harrison and four sisters, Edna Smithson, Viola Rosser, Bertha Grimes and Catherine Ramsey. He is survived by his wife, Helen Marie Harrison, two daughters and their husbands, Janice Marie Martin, spouse Rickey, Judith L. Layne and spouse Douglas. Granddaughters Kimberly Dawn Pinkham, spouse Jason, Karla Rene Johnson, spouse Clay, Crystal Gilson, spouse, Raymond and Katherine Annette Layne and Cynthia Joyce Layne. He had four great grandchildren, Collin and Connor Johnson, Madison Pinkham and John Weylin Gilson and nephews and nieces. Brother Al, was very active in the United Pentecostal Church. Throughout his life, he served as Sunday School Superintendant, was on the Church Board, was leader of the Golden Age Group, catered meals and started Troop 42, the first Boy Scout Troop started in the UPC. He had various occupations throughout his life. He was the manager of A&P, relocated to Greenville Texas, from Louisiana in 1961, then moved to Mesquite in1964 and became a local business owner who was active in the community. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and cooking. He was devoted to his family and friends with a humorous outlook on life.
