Alfred Earl Ross' Obituary
ROSS, ALFRED EARL Loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away July 14, 2008 in Garland, TX at the age of 89. He was affectionately known as ‘papaw’ to many, including the students at Rowlett Elementary School where he volunteered for several years. Earl was born in Uvalde, TX, on November 19, 1918 to Pearl King Ross and Sidney Lee Ross. He was reared in Batesville, TX until he went to Howard Payne College where he met the love of his life, LaVerne Neal. They married in August of 1939 and were married for 61 years until her death in 2000. Family and faith were very important to Earl and LaVerne as they brought up four daughters. A long time member of First Baptist Church, Garland, Earl was a Deacon Emeritus. He was a graduate of Howard Payne University and Oklahoma University and a Navy veteran of WWII. Earl retired from E-Systems after more than 30 years. He is survived by daughters, Linda C. May and husband Don of Rockwall, Gloria Hare and husband Jim of Lubbock, Karen Fuller and husband Philip of Ft. Worth and Annette Chinske of Garland; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild and another on the way. Visitation will be from 6-8pm, Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Restland Funeral Home. Celebration of his life will be 10:30am, Thursday, July 17, 2008 in the Chapel at First Baptist Church of Garland, 801 W. Ave. D., Garland, TX 75042. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Garland.
