Alger Ben Baker III's Obituary
We celebrate the life of our beloved son, Alger Ben Baker, III, who went to be with his Heavenly Father unexpectedly and much too early at the age of 18 on Sunday, July 26, 2015, in Plano, Texas. Ben was born December 5, 1996 and was a gifted student, loving big brother to Alexander, 15, and wonderful grandson, nephew and cousin to his family members. An amazing young man, he also deeply loved and cared about his vast circle of friends and extended family. Ben recently graduated with honors from Plano West Senior High School and this fall was proud to be attending Baylor University (where his parents, cousins and great-grandfather attended) as a fourth-generation Baylor Bear with enough credits to start as a sophomore on a generous academic scholarship in the Hankamer School of Business. His accomplishments in his short life are too numerous to mention, but his great loves were shaving ice as the King of Bahama Buck’s on Campbell at Preston; hanging out with his friends at Lakeside playing basketball and swimming; playing sand volleyball at Parkway Hills Baptist Church; spending hours listening to music and playing the Xbox with his little brother; going to Plano West football and basketball games; eating chips and queso and sour cream chicken enchiladas at Lalo’s; singing and dancing; and simply, just simply, living. He is survived by his father, mother and brother: Alger Ben Baker, Jr., Allison Allegra Ellis Baker, and William Alexander Baker; grandparents: Alger Ben Baker, Sr. and Ruby Nell McKenzie Baker; loving uncles and aunts: Nathan Woodruff Ellis and wife, Charlotte Louise Myers, Carnelia Marie Baker Shaw, Dosslin Ornell Baker, Christopher Lee Baker, and Kip and Louise Woodruff; cousins: Sage William and Eden Francesca Ellis; Raquel Baker Morgan (Jeff Morgan) and their children, Braylyn, Wynter, Taylyn and Tymar; Cornell Hutchinson; Argyle Woodruff, Mary-Kate Woodruff Solomon (Shea and baby Reed) and Molly Woodruff; and many, many more great aunts and uncles and cousins in the Baker, McKinzie and Woodruff families. McKinzie and Woodruff families that loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William H. “Skeeter” Ellis and his grandmother, Beverly Bob Helen Woodruff Ellis. A memorial service, with reception following, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at 2:30 pm at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 5801 W. Plano Parkway, Plano, TX, 75093, 972.380.8001. In lieu of flowers, the family is setting up a scholarship fund in Ben’s name for future Plano West Senior High graduating seniors. Donations may be sent electronically to benbaker@kw.com using your Chase, Bank of America or Wells Fargo app. Or mail checks notated to the Ben Baker III Scholarship Fund to Ben Baker, Keller Williams Dallas Preston Road, 18383 Preston Rd., Dallas, TX 75252. Donations will be posted to a Chase account to be used with great integrity to assist future students for many years to come. “Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groaning too deep for words.” Romans 8:26. We love you, BenBen! Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243 at Restland Road.
