Alice Caldwell's Obituary
Alice Marie Caldwell was born April 26, 1921, in South Range, Michigan to Henry and Atleta Eskola. She died with grace on Feb. 5, 2007. In WW II, she served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in France, where she met her future husband, Robert Lee Caldwell. They married in 1946 and made their home in Texas. Alice was devoted to her family, and they to her. How they loved their ‘Mammy’! She was known for her generous heart and quiet sense of humor. Her home was a safe haven to many, and her open mind, optimistic spirit, and unconditional love shaped the lives of those around her. As a woman of strong faith, she lived with hope & promise. She did not fear death, viewing it as a natural part of life. She was preceded in death by sisters, Helen Gurley and Evelyn Schroeder, granddaughter, Jenny Comeaux, husband Bob Caldwell and daughter, Helen Smith. Alice is survived by her brother, Edsel Eskola and wife Sharon, sister-in-law Frances Howie, children, Bob Caldwell, Jr. and wife Janie, Jo Ann Currie and husband James, and Tom Caldwell and wife Stephanie, 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation is Friday, Feb. 9, 6-8 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home. Memorial service is Saturday, Feb. 10, at Bentwood Trail Presbyterian Church, 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society or Bentwood Trail Pres. Church.
