Alice H. Chiu's Obituary
Alice H. Chiu, O.D., passed away peacefully on July 24, 2020, after her battle with cancer.
Born on March 3, 1975, in Chang Hua, Taiwan, Alice immigrated to the U.S. in 1982. She was raised in Richardson, TX. While at Berkner High School, Alice was a member of the Mighty Ram Band and the flag corps. She was a talented musician, playing both flute and piano, and she adored musicals.
Alice completed her education at The University of Texas at Austin and Illinois College of Optometry. After graduation, Alice practiced optometry first in San Francisco and then in Dallas. While in college, she was part of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. While in optometry school, she volunteered with SVOSH, student chapter of Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity, in Honduras, providing eye care to communities in need.
Alice married the love of her life, Thomas, in 2006, and they enjoyed traveling and experiencing different cultures and foods. Following the birth of their children, Alice dedicated her time to volunteering and raising their family. She actively volunteered with the Stinson Elementary PTA. Alice will be remembered for her selflessness, big smile, and devotion to family.
Throughout her travels, Alice was able to call Austin, Houston, San Francisco, Chicago, and White River Junction, VT home - to name a few, before returning to her hometown of Richardson. Her passion was to see the world, visiting national parks and historical sites. She loved places with mountains and waterfalls.
Alice is survived by her husband Hsienchang Thomas Chiu, M.D. and children Patrick (12) and Brooke (10) and family in Austin and Richardson, TX, as well as Taiwan.
