Alice Jane Vanderwoude's Obituary
Vanderwoude, Jane, our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2010 at the age of 89. Jane was born on August 13, 1921 in Dallas, Texas. She was the only child of the late Dolph and Lottie Reichenstein. Jane attended Miss Taylor’s School, Hockaday, Highland Park High School, Edgewood Park, New York, and the University of Texas, Austin. She married Norman Vanderwoude on April 23, 1942, and they were married for 46 years before his death. Jane had a zest for life, which was felt by everyone around her. As she endured times of physical challenge, she always kept her wit, her sparkling smile, and her boisterous laugh. The family is very grateful for the wonderful staff at Caruth Haven, Total Patient Care, Faith Hospice, and her doctors for their wonderful service, devotion, and friendship. Jane is survived by her daughter, Ann Lemmons and husband, Larry; sons, Larry Vanderwoude and wife, Paula; Michael Vanderwoude and wife, Marsha Lee. Her grandchildren include Kim Lemmons, Kristi Lemmons, Brad Lemmons, Victoria Vanderwoude, and Mendy Newman, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. A celebration of Jane’s life will be held at Preston Hollow United Methodist Church, 6315 Walnut Hill Lane, on Wednesday at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice. She will be greatly missed, and we were lucky to “borrow” her for the many years we all shared together.
