Allen Walker Chittum's Obituary
Allen Walker Chittum, 72, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 24, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He filled his long and productive life loving and caring for his family, building a 32-year career in telecommunications at SBC, Inc., and protecting and serving his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. Allen was born on October 20, 1944 in Wichita Falls, TX. There he graduated from Wichita Falls High School and attended Midwestern University. He received his Bachelor’s and dual Master’s degrees from Dallas Baptist University. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church Richardson and was curious and diligent in his study of the Bible. Allen enjoyed restoring classic cars, gardening, road trips, the beach, popcorn, and especially night sailing. He was truly an adventurous & creative soul – from beginning to end. He tried his hand at everything from stained glass, canning and quilting to Tai Chi and even performed in the circus as an acrobat. He had a dry, witty humor that could catch you off guard and quite often had to be explained to others. His memorial service will be held in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, Dallas, TX on Thursday, 12/29/16 at 2:30 PM. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Jamye Chittum; sisters, Wilma Defoe, Helen Arbuckle, Joyce McGilvray; niece, Cheryl Chittum. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Kathy; daughters, Melanie Chittum, Cindy and Jody Nichols, Renee and Rob Daffin, Alisa and John Hamilton, and Amber Ashmore; grandchildren, Bill Chittum, Jordyn Moore, Jett and Emma Daffin, Bailey and Layton Ashmore, and Jace and Quinlan Hamilton; great granddaughter, Braelyn Chittum; sister, Eva Gene Marushia; brother, Leonard and Phyllis Chittum; sister-in-law, Diane Moore; brother-in-law Gary and Marjanne Clark and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Allen’s name may be made to The American Heart Association or the First Baptist Church Richardson College Scholarship Fund.
