Allen Crenshaw Jr.'s Obituary
Crenshaw Jr., Dr. Allen passed away quietly at Presbyterian Village North to be with his Lord, Saturday, August 21, 2010 from complications compounded by old age. He was 95. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, southern gentleman, Baptist, orchid grower, and avid fisherman. His professional life was spent as a general surgeon at Baylor Hospital where he retired after more than 45 years of practice. Dr. Crenshaw was born in Andalusia, Alabama to Col. Allen Crenshaw and Mary Boone (Bonnie) Riley on June 26, 1915. Survivors include: his wife Jacqueline (Jackie) Yvonne Mansfield; daughter, Karen Groves; sons, Allen Crenshaw III and wife Tonda; Jay Riley Crenshaw and wife Marsha; Clark Crenshaw and his wife Diane. He had nine grandchildren: Kim Peterson; Andy Crenshaw and wife Christine; Kelly Crenshaw; Courtney Hutson and husband Jimmy; Carolyn Rogers and husband Russell; Aaron Keener and wife Calli; Jason Crenshaw and wife Melinda; Joseph Crenshaw; and Katie Crenshaw. He has 10 great-grandchildren: Austin and Blake Hutson; Lyndsay, Andrew, and Jacob Riley Rogers; Corbin and Brock Keener; Victoria and Anderson Crenshaw, and Riley Ann Crenshaw as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including those living nearby who include Bonnie Nancy Boorman, Charles Crenshaw V, and Ben Crenshaw. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Charles Edward Crenshaw IV; his sisters, Francis Louise Crenshaw, Carolyn Thompson, Bonnie Kowall and Anna Riley Haas. He was past president of the Baylor Hospital Staff and retired as a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), the Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, the Dallas Society of General Surgeons (past president-two terms), Sertoma Club (past president), Dallas Southern Clinical Society (past director and past president), the Dallas Arboretum and the Dallas Bromeliad Society. Visitation will be Monday evening at Restland Funeral Home from 7-9. Graveside services will be held at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas 75243 at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday August 24 with a memorial service following at Park Cities Baptist Church, Ellis Chapel at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in honor of his wife to the Alzheimer’s Association National Office 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, 800-272-3900 in the name of Jacqueline Crenshaw.
