Alma Rose Hasbrook's Obituary
Alma was the daughter of Robert Morris Rose and Tommie Mills Rose born July 29, 1932 in Winnsboro, TX. She died peacefully May 27, 2017 at home surrounded by family. Alma graduated from Winnsboro High School on May 26, 1949 where she held the office of Historian. Shortly after High School, Alma and Betty (her sister) moved to Dallas for employment. Alma married William Kenneth Hasbrook (affectionally called Ken or Kenny), on March 31, 1951. Alma met Ken through a High School Friend named Marjorie Gillis who worked with Ken at Mobil Oil. Alma visited Marjorie for lunch one day and Ken took one look at Alma and knew he wanted her number. The rest is a story book Love story of two people who fell in love and married after three months and had a beautiful family. They resided in apartments located in the Lakewood area of Dallas. Alma and Ken where blessed with two Daughters, the late Lynda Kay Tyler and Pamela Sue Hasbrook Vetrano. After the birth of their second child, they moved to Garland, TX, where the resided their entire marriage. In her early years of employment she worked for James and Taylor Attorney, Metropolitan Saving and Loan, and retired from Texas Commerce Bank (Chase) as Senior VP. Alma was also a member of the Eastern Hill Auxiliary for many years. Alma’s love of her life passed away in 1994 with cancer after 42 years of marriage. Alma then filled her time by traveling and volunteering for the Baylor Auxiliary Volunteers at Baylor Medical Center of Garland (Scott & White) for over 10 Years where she was honored with the Lifetime Member award. Alma loved her family most and shared many events with them. She had many dear friends that remain very close through the years. Some of those friends, but not limited to, were Elaine Prude, Janeen Gray, Claire Love and Nancy Ralston. She loved the symphonies and musicals, especially when she shared them with her Granddaughter Angela Vetrano Tutt. She always so loved the changing seasons that brought different varieties of flowers. That’s when she so liked to visit the Arboretum with her Granddaughter, Michelle Tyler Sherrill. Alma loved HUGS so much. She believed that you would actually live longer if you received a HUG every day. Since Alma loved to read the newspaper from cover to cover, drink her coffee and “be lazy”, she would look everyday for the cartoon “LOVE IS?” with the cute captions attached. She would always attach the cartoon to her refrigerator if the caption had meaning to her or her family. Alma’s most favorite pastimes were to eat chocolate cake and peach cobbler. Alma once sat in her bed with her Granddaughter Angela and ate the entire peach cobble. They laughed about it for years!! Alma with her two daughters and Michelle (her first Granddaughter), did everything together. That included their favorites, shopping, and event planning and going to lunch. Many of the family members, knowing better, would forget that Michelle was the Granddaughter and not the third daughter. Alma’s Granddaughter Melanie, has fond memories of Christmas Eve during her younger years with her Grandparents and her cousin. They would sit on the couch, watch the stars from the front window and their grandparents would point out each star and say, “There’s Santa, and he’s coming!” “Maybe that’s him….” and they kept it up for hours, until they would cuddle up and watch, “The Land Before Time”. Alma and her Grandson, Gregory Vetrano Jr. had such a close relationship as well. He was her protector and would always go to the door, get his Grandmother (Gommie), open the door and seat her. He practiced with his Gommie on how to become gentlemen. Gregory called his “Gommie” on every Valentine’s Day every year to ask her to be his “Valentine”. Alma’s continued her entire life to be close with her brothers and sisters as they were also a very important thing she loved. Her brother, RM and Sarah Lee (his Wife) like to travel together with Alma and Ken and they had such wonderful times. Her brother, Marc and Janeen (his Wife) made their Monday weekly call to check on her health and see if she needed anything, which was a priceless gift to Alma. Her treasured sister, Betty Smith, was her confidante in all things. Alma could trust with all her most personal thoughts and secrets. Alma’s love for many things was great and she believed family is where life begins and love never ends.
