Alma Jean McCarter's Obituary
Alma Jean Dishman McCarter was born on November 20, 1926, in Dallas, Texas and passed away on November 16, 2016, in Dallas Texas. Alma was preceded in death by her mother, Alma Dishman ; father Charles Dishman; brothers, Charles Dishman, Alston Dishman, Blair Dishman, Cleo Dishman, Raymond Dishman , Durer Dishman, EE Dishman, and sister, DeWatta Wheat. Alma is survived by her son, Dewitt McCarter; daughter Patricia McCarter; grandchildren, Collin McCarter, Cade McCarter, Claire McCarter and Kenna McCarter; sister, Marie Heflin and many nieces and nephews. Alma is known to the family as “Sugar”. Alma was a graduate of North Dallas High School, she completed nurses training school at Parkland School of nursing 1947. Alma worked in Denver for two years then served as a nurse in the Navy in San Diego during the Korean War for two years 1951- 1953- lieutenant following this she studied nursing at UT Austin then transferred to Galveston where she earned her Bachelors of Administration in Nursing in 1955. In 1955 she moved to Houston met and married Leo Dewitt McCarter in 1958. Son, Leo Dewitt McCarter was born in 1959 was born and daughter Patricia McCarter followed in 1962. In 1963 she moved to San Antonio and went back to work as a school nurse to approximately 1970 until she retired and moved to Plano, Texas. She volunteered at a local hospital and at voter booths during elections for several years. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 10:00AM at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
