Karlene
There are many words to describe Alton, but “Christian gentleman” are definitely the ones at the top of the list for me. He lived with us for the last 5 years of his life and he was always so kind to me. He always wanted to be productive and to make a contribution, to make a difference in people’s lives. He lived the teachings of Jesus and treated everyone with respect and kindness. He would tell me, “if there is anything I can do to help you, just let me know”. He would go to the grocery store with me and he really enjoyed “driving” the basket and helping me carry the groceries into the house. He always insisted on carrying the heaviest items for me.
As most of you know, he loved to go for long walks. We have a pond in our subdivision and he would walk around the pond most every day. Many times he would circle the pond 3 times which was 1 mile! He liked to wave and salute the neighbors as they drove past.
I lost my father about twenty years ago and Alton really helped fill that void for me. I thank God for the privilege of having him in my life and I think everyone that knew him feels the same. He was a good, kind, thoughtful, honest and honorable man.
He left his family with many good memories and he was truly a blessing to us all. Godspeed Grandpa Alton. You will be missed.
