Alvin Rook Hagler's Obituary
HAGLER, ALVIN ROOK beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend went to be with the Lord on November 6, 2012. Alvin was born on a farm in Joshua, Texas, on September 5th, 1924. He was the fifth of six sons born to Ollie and Lalla Hagler. Alvin graduated from high school in Joshua in 1942 and then enrolled in Texas A&M College. During the spring of his freshman year (1943), he was called up to serve in World War II. Alvin was stationed in England and toured Germany and most of Western Europe in B-17 bombers as a navigator until 1945. After his service, he returned to Texas A&M College and aggressively sought his bachelor degree in Civil Engineering. He graduated in February of 1948. Alvin continued to serve in the National Guard and Army Reserves until 1968 reaching the rank of Lt Colonel. Alvin married Frances Woodrum of Wichita Falls in December of 1948. He first went to work for Inge Hayman Construction building an addition to Baylor Hospital. Al & Frances together started Hagler Construction Company in 1950 where he continued to work until 2012. Soon after he and Frances married, they joined Wilshire Baptist Church and he was an active member until recently. Through his years at Wilshire, he served as a deacon and on numerous committees, but his passion in the last several years was organizing the preschool worship care by the deacons and their spouses. Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Lallah Hagler; along with all 5 brothers, Royce, Glenn, Jack, Oliver and Carl; wife, Frances Hagler; and son, Dan Hagler. He is survived by his children, Randy and Pam Hagler, Mona Hagler, and Susan (Hagler) Thompson; grandchildren, Josh and Leith Hagler, Ashley (Hagler) and Dustin Petrash, Caleb Hagler, Micki Hagler, Todd Hagler, Haley Hagler, Hunter Thompson, Jacob Thompson and James Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Restland Funeral Home. Graveside service is Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 12:30 PM in Restland Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held shortly after at 3:00 PM at Wilshire Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wilshire Baptist Church Preschool Ministry or the Fisher House Foundation.
