Amalia Underwood's Obituary
Amalia Traber Underwood was born on February 23, 1936 in Obersteinbach, Germany to Harri and Amalia Traber. Their family went through many hardships as they were raised during wartime, especially her father reported missing in action at the Russian front. Her mother was left to raise five children. Amalia learned the concept of hard work and using her resources. She was employed by a hotel to clean and prepare meals and as a nanny for a French family. She met and dated Bobby Gene Underwood who was in the U.S. Air Force and they were married on December 23, 1955. After Bobby’s service was up at Hahn Air Force base, he brought Amalia to the United States where she was loved by his family. Together, they had 4 children. She was proud to have become a US citizen. Her profession was a hair stylist and she continued to work until it became difficult with her health. Amalia had a passion for gardening, for shopping and for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The grands could get away with things her children couldn’t dream of getting away with! She also loved volunteering at nursing homes where she styled hair and had monthly birthday parties for the residents. She loved “old folks” and even called them that, long after she became one. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter Donna Vidacovich & her husband Chris; her daughter Renee Tolison; her son Bobby Underwood, Jr. and his wife Nora; grandchildren, Courtney Vidacovich Donovan, Bridgette Underwood, Joanna Underwood Frey, Luke Vidacovich, Megan Underwood, Sawyer Tolison, Stephanie Tolison and Bobby Lawrence Underwood; 2 great grandchildren Lawrence and Jaden; her sister in law, Donna Cobern; many nieces and nephews in Germany and the United States and many good friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Bobby, her father and mother, her siblings, and her son Carl.Service will be at Restland Wildwood Chapel on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 12:30 pm with a visitation scheduled on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at Restland Funeral Home.
