Amelia Ann "Amy" Massad's Obituary
Amelia (Amy) Ann Shadid Massad was born September 18, 1929 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Lebanese immigrant parents, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016. Named after Amelia Earhart, she went to Classen High School and Oklahoma City University. She worked in her parents’ grocery store, Shadid’s Market, from an early age. As part of the family’s war effort during WWII, she kept records at their store for meat rations as directed by the government. She met a young pharmacist from East Texas, Ed Massad, and they fell in love. They corresponded back and forth and she kept all of the letters. They married in 1950 and lived in Tyler, Texas, Odessa, Texas, and eventually settled in Longview, Texas where they owned three pharmacies. After a number of years Amy brought cosmetics into the pharmacy where many women from East Texas came to shop. That was very rare at the time. Up until the day she died she wore Elizabeth Arden. Amy and Ed moved to Dallas in 1972 and in 1974 they opened Amy’s, a women’s boutique at Meadow Central Mall. In 1986, they later moved the store to Preston Center until they closed their doors in 1995. She had a gift of fashion and introduced many new collections to Dallas. She and Ed were a fun and attractive couple and made many lifelong friends. As hard as they worked during the day, they always had time to play at night. They loved dancing and dining in the Dallas nightlife. After 50 years of marriage, Ed passed away in 2001 and Amy continued on with friends and loved ones. He was the love of her life. Amy was a caring lady who loved people and did so many things for so many. She loved cooking Lebanese food, enjoyed playing bridge, exercised with yoga, and relaxed to movies and listening to Frank Sinatra. She was a member of KidneyTexas, Inc. and Gem-e-ya, a Lebanese women’s group. She is survived by her three cherished daughters: Terri M. Bumgarner , Sheryl M. Baxter, Rose M. Wise and their husbands Roger W. Bumgarner, Kenneth R. Baxter, Michael D. Wise whom she loved. She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren: Leslie G. Bumgarner, Lindsey M. Bumgarner, Matthew B. Baxter and his wife, Lindsey E. Baxter, and Brittney A. Baxter. She was looking forward to being a great-grandmother in July. Preceded in death by her husband, Edmond Massad, by her father, Hafeeth Shockrallah Shadid, her mother Alexandra Massad Shadid, and her brother, A. Phil Shadid.
