Amelia Duncan's Obituary
Amelia Z. “Amy” Duncan passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 23, 2017, after a long and valiant fight against cancer. Her children were by her side throughout, and were blessed to share her journey. Amy was a true warrior, always strong and positive. Even at the very end, if asked how she was feeling, she would always reply, “I’m fine!” with a sunny smile. A retired Registered Nurse, Amy was a fiercely independent woman, a beautiful spirit, and an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. She was a champion Bridge player, and played as long as she could hold a card. Her bridge groups and the lovely folks she met through bridge were all dear to her and kept her going. Born in Gallup, NM, she met and married the love of her life, John H. Duncan (who predeceased her and has been patiently waiting for her all these years) in Corpus Christi, Texas, where they lived and raised their family until moving to Dallas, Texas, over 25 years ago. Amy is survived by her children, Kellie Duncan Guerra, John R. Duncan (Marla), and Traci Duncan; her grandchildren, Jennifer R. Salimbene (Michael), Kimberly Duncan-Ashley (Jason), Austin J. Huehlefeld, Thomas D. Huehlefeld, Alexander E. Guerra and Mollie M. Guerra; and one great-grand child, Elle Jolei Salimbene. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph “Tony” Zepeda (Jane), and is survived by her brothers, Roland V. Zepeda (Linda) and Charles H. Zepeda (Janet), her sister, Rebecca Z. Marez, beloved nephew Richard F. Zepeda, and a host of family and friends who were as dear to her heart as she was to theirs – too many to list here, but they know the special place each of them held in her life. Special thanks to Karen, Shannon and the “Lab Ladies” at Texas Oncology, who always managed to make her smile. Amy was a life-long patron of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and requested that donations be made to SJCRH in lieu of flowers. Memorial Service and Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 600 S. Jupiter Rd., Richardson, Texas.
