Amneris Irizarry's Obituary
Amneris Concepcion Irizarry, 81, of Garland, Texas was born November 7, 1942, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to Roberto Carrasquillo and Maria Del Carmen Concepcion Carrasquillo passed away on December 15, 2023. She married Jose A. Irizarry on January 14, 1966, in Bayamon, PR.
Amneris enjoyed volunteering at church, playing with grandchildren, traveling with her family. She especially loved spending time at the beach. She loved babies, especially her grandchildren who knew her as “Tata.” She would not just hold babies, but she would sit in the floor and play dolls or trucks or whatever her grandchildren wanted. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 23 which she excitedly taught to her oldest granddaughter who in turn recited the scripture for her parents, complete with her grandmother’s accent. She loved reading her Bible, praying for and with others, spending time with family, laughing and always wearing a smile on her face. She was a loving and caring person who always thought of others first. She took to heart the scripture from Matthew 25: 36, “I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ Her love language was gift giving. If you stopped by her house anytime, she would present you with a gift, whether she knew you or not. She had the gift of hospitality and a servant’s heart. You would never go hungry in her house. Nery was a mother, not just to her three sons, but to her nieces, nephews, and many friends and neighbors. “She was like a mother to me,” is a common sentiment. She loved the people of St. Pius X Catholic Parish, especially her small group that frequently met in her home. She loved them like family. (The Irizarry’s would like to thank the church family of St. Pius X Catholic Parish for loving their wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother. Your kindness to our family through prayers, visitations, food, and many of acts of kindness is greatly appreciated).
Amneris is preceded in death by her mother, father, and sister, Lilly Concepcion.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joe Irizarry; sister, Lolly Lopez; three sons, Tony and Stephanie Irizarry, Orlando and Tiffany Irizarry, and Alberto and Teresa Irizarry; grandchildren, Taylor Irizarry, Enzo Irizarry, Marco Irizarry, Travis Irizarry, Rebekah Irizarry, Rachel Irizarry, Ruthie Irizarry and Alex Irizarry; great-grandson, Asher Irizarry; nieces and nephews, Yolanda Lopez, Rafael Lopez, Jose Manuel Hernandez, Melvin Hernandez and their spouses and children.
Services will be held January 2, 2024, at St. Pius X Catholic Parish at 3030 Gus Thomason Road in Dallas, TX, 75228. A rosary will be held at 11:00 a.m. and her Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30 a.m. Family and friends are also invited to the committal at 2:30 p.m. at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX, 75211.
