Amy Scheafer Horby's Obituary
Amy Schaefer Horby passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday February 10th, 2024, in Dallas TX. She was 97. Amy was born October 3, 1926, in Connellsville, PA and was raised in Uniontown, PA. She was the second of four daughters born to Walter Herschel Schaefer and Carrie Blanche Fritz Schaefer. After graduating from Uniontown high school in 1944 Amy began her career with Bell telephone as a switchboard operator. In 1948 she married Michael Horby, a U.S. Marine. In 1953 they moved to Dallas where she pursued various secretarial positions including 25 years of service with the VA hospital. Whether square dancing, creating handmade quilts, bowling, reading, travelling, or pursuing many other activities, Amy found time to provide a hot meal including dessert for her family. Always busy in body, mind and spirit, Amy was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for 70 years, a 50-year member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and a member of the Elks ladies Dallas lodge participating in the “71 steppers line dance group”. Amy and Michael attended the Ennis polka festival every May and were members of “Branches and Twigs square dance club in Farmers Branch. She and Michael enjoyed 52 years together until his death in 2000. Predeceased by parents, spouse, and sister Elaine Smith. Survivors include daughter Carrie Ann Horby Krejci (Frank), Richardson, Tx, son Gary Casey Horby (Carolynn), Frisco, Tx, granddaughter Brittany Horby Greene (Brandon), Milton, GA, granddaughter Casey Elizabeth Horby, Carrollton, Tx, grandson Hunter Garrett Horby, Seattle, WA, great granddaughters Lola Blaise Greene and Aurora Rein Greene, Milton, GA, sister Dora Cassety, Charlottesville, VA, sister Dr. Esther Lauer, Santa Cruz, CA and several nieces and nephews.

Service: Fri., Feb 23, 2024, 1pm, First Presbyterian Church (Sudie George Chapel), 1835 Young St., Dallas, TX 75201. Dr. Bruce Buchanan will officiate. Reception to follow.
