Amy Ruth Lewis Strow's Obituary
Amy Strow was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on June 20, 1930 to Mittie Cooper and Frank Steuart. Orphaned at the age of 9, Amy was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Perla and Leo Lewis of Dallas, Texas and Arlington, Virginia. Amy attended Southern Methodist University as a music major for one semester before embarking on adventures in the working world. She held several interesting jobs as a young woman, including working at the Pentagon and at a radio station in Florida. She married Robert W. Strow in Dallas in 1954 and began her life as a home maker. After having four children, Amy became single again in 1973 and reentered the work force. After many years of employment as an insurance adjustor at William H. McGee, Amy retired in 1993 in order to care for her elderly aunt, Dewey Cooper of Dallas. Following her aunt’s death, Amy spent several years dividing her time between Dallas and Pecos, New Mexico. Amy loved music, especially Classical music and opera, and her musical legacy lives on through several of her children and all three of her grandchildren. She loved change – which was evidenced by the many moves she made! She also loved cats, in particular her last cat, Jilly who was with her for more than 17 years. She attended both the Episcopal and Anglican church during the later years of her life. Amy is survived by her four children, John Malcom Strow of Pecos, New Mexico, Cassie Strow McCampbell of Richardson, Texas, Carl Lewis Strow of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Bebe Strow Triplett of Dallas, Texas and her three grandchildren, Madison Triplett, Robert Triplett IV, and Jeremy McCampbell. A private family service was held for Amy at Church of the Incarnation in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, Amy asked that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
