Andrew Jackson Davis' Obituary
Andrew J. Davis (Andy) was born on June 18, 1949, in Dallas, TX, to Joseph and Lillian Davis. He was the youngest and only son among six children. Andy grew up in Garland, TX. He attended George Washington Carver High School until integration and graduated from Garland High School in 1967.
Shortly after high school, Andy enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Eldorado during the Vietnam War. He was honored with the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device.
On August 18, 1972, Andy married the love of his life, Mae Lou Pinkard of Ferris, TX. They shared a beautiful marriage of 52 years, truly best friends and partners in every season of life. Together, they had two children: Olivia Krystle, who passed away shortly after birth, and Krystle Olivia. They raised their daughter in Rowlett, TX.
Andy worked as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service for 42 years, retiring in 2012. He loved his work and the people he worked alongside. His coworkers affectionately called him “Rev” because he was often found reading his Bible and offering heartfelt, faith-filled advice on life, love, and God’s Word.
Andy’s greatest passion was serving God and others. He believed the true purpose of life was to love God and love people. He cherished God’s house and had the privilege of helping plant St. Mark Baptist Church in Garland, TX, alongside his friend Roosevelt Eric Griffin. He and Mae have been devoted members of Church in the City for many years and have served faithfully as elders since 2015. Over the years, they also led the Greeter Team, and Andy served as the Men’s Ministry Treasurer.
Andy was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Olivia Davis; his parents, Joseph and Lillian Davis; and his sister, Dorothy Turner.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mae Davis; his daughter, Krystle Davis; and his siblings: Odessa Woodert, Luana Allen, Geraldine Davis, JoAnn Mayberry and a host of family and friends who loved him dearly.
Andy was a beautiful soul who carried God’s love into every room. His life was a gift, and his legacy of faith and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
