I have been so fortunate in my life to marry into a great extended family with high quality people like Uncle Andy. I have been really missing him, my in-laws and parents in recent days. All of our love and support to his bride, Aunt Francie and the Massiminos. May their love energy be with us always!

In His Footsteps
We were blessed to have Uncle Andy as a role model and an inspiration to us Sabatini boys growing up in the 50’s and 60’s in Rural Ridge, PA. Even though we only saw him occasionally, his mother (Nona) and his sisters - my mom Margaret and my Aunt Theresa- never missed an opportunity to praise his accomplishments and brag on what a wonderful son and brother he was. His life was the example that I aspired to, even though he was not regularly present in my life.
Even the neighbors held him in high regard. When I was 12, I had the privilege to be a paperboy for the Valley Daily News on the same route that Uncle Andy had done years before when he was that age. Many of the older people would look at me when I delivered their paper and call me Andy. I had to explain to them that I was Frank, Margie’s son and Andy was my uncle. On cold winter Saturday mornings, I was often invited in for a cup of coffee to warm up. They would ask me about myself and they would tell me their memories about Andy and his willingness to help with something that they needed. Of course this was more inspiration to follow in his footsteps.
When I did get to see him in person, I would be in awe of him, and I particularly remember his big strong hands when he shook mine. Sometimes I thought my bones would break! He only occasionally came home to Rural Ridge on leave but when he did he would have pictures in the form of slides(in color!) of their adventures. We would all gather together in Nona’s living room to watch the slide show (old style non-digital power point to you younger folks). It was better than anything showing at the Cheswick theater! We were especially in awe of their times in Hawaii.
As I grew up, although I had no inclination to join the military, I attended Penn State and became a Metallurgical Engineer and had a career in engineering and management – I always tried to be a servant-leader as he exemplified. When we would touch base, he would always have encouraging words to help me along the way.
During my adult years we kept in touch but his example and the impressions he made in my life as a boy have remained, and he will always be a part of me. I am so blessed that I got to talk to him during his last weeks and express to him how important his example was in my life.

The beautiful obituary and countless tributes stand as testimony that Uncle Andy’s well lived life was genuine inspiration to so many.
What I will most remember is the way that he so authentically cared for the happiness of others.
I have been blessed to have him throughout my own life as a constant reassuring presence, and a model of generosity and compassionate love in its truest form.
I will miss him deeply; but his smile, his laugh, the memory of his huge heart will remain with me eternally.
To Aunt Francie, Elisa, Michele, Maria, Andrew and Julia -
