Name: Angela Marie MagidAge: 86City: Dallas, TXDied: June 5th, 2019She was born on June 22,1932 in Elmont, Long Island to Angelo and Jenny PaladinoShe was married on February 2, 1957 at The Shrine Church of St. Bernadette in Brooklyn, NY to Harvey MagidAngela was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her family and those she considered “like family”,which was pretty much everyone she met, were her priority in a life that was remarkable for many reasons. She was a child prodigy, concert pianist from early childhood through her 20’s, playing Carnegie Hall as a teen and studying the Schillinger System of musical composition as an early pupil of the discipline. As a composer she had a number of jazz songs published including the song Lover’s Lament recorded by the Talbot Brothers which became a number one hit in their native Bermuda, discovered by them while she was on her honeymoon there and sat in to play with them on a whim. She entered New York University at the age of 16 and graduated with a degree in Industrial Psychology while also studying Visual Art. She was an accomplished painter and worked often in mixed medium. She dedicated her life to her children as a homemaker for many years, but always found ways to pursue her interests while giving to others. Throughout her life she had a love of astronomy and volunteered as a docent at the planetarium, narrating shows for school children. She was very active in the Dallas Council of PTA’s and at the neighborhood school level championing various causes and working tirelessly to improve the educational experience and other aspects of life for the youth of Dallas for over 20 years. If she knew how to do something, she was always willing to volunteer to teach a group of kids how to do it, be it a girl scout troupe, a class, a grade, or an entire school. Later in life she took a job at Neiman Marcus in their corporate headquarters training their customer service staff. She became an integral part of the organization for over a decade, after simply applying for a part time job.She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Harvey Magid. She is survived by her three children: Jennifer Magid Smith, Christopher Magid and Brenda Rapp. She is also survived by her only grandchild, her great love, Doak Campbell Rapp. All reside in Dallas, TX. She instilled in them all a love of learning, reading, music and art. Things that have become part of the career paths and life of all four of them.In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to The Parkinson’s Voice Project, a 501 c (3) not for profit charity based in Richardson, TX with the mission of preserving the voices of individuals with Parkinson’s and related neurological disorders through intensive speech therapy, follow-up support, research, education, and community awareness: https://www.parkinsonvoiceproject.org/Donate
