Anliza Jane Gibbon's Obituary
GIBBON, “AUNT JANE” Anliza Jane Gibbon was born at home on November 5, 1920 in Arthur, Illinois to John Franklin Gibbon (1896-1948) and Jessie Hood “Gibby” Gibbon (1895-1984). Aunt Jane grew up during the Great Depression with her younger sister Joann in Sullivan, Illinois, and moved to Dallas with her family in 1940. She worked for the Tex Harvey Oil Company as a secretary between 1941 and 1948, and then went to work for Rogers & Smith Advertising Agency, where she stayed until her retirement in 1988. Aunt Jane was very active in her church, St. Andrews Presbyterian. She sang in the choir, served often as an Elder on The Session, and wrote a monthly newsletter column titled “This and That with Aunt Jane.” She was never married, and never had a driver’s license, because she simply did not like to drive. She did, however, love to stitch. She was a fabulous cook, and her Thanksgiving feasts were legendary. She possessed a sharp tongue and a quick wit, and was loved by all. She passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2014, just a month shy of her 94th birthday. Aunt Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Joann Gibbon McRae, and her beloved cat “Ms Kitty.” She is survived by her brother-in-law, Campbell “Mac” McRae of Dallas, and five nieces and nephews: Malinda McRae Roberts (Doug) of Ft. Myers, Florida; Patti McRae Steinke (Ted) of Dallas; John McRae of Dallas; Michael McRae (Cherie) of Dallas; and Dwaine Murphy (Ramona) of Lake Tawakoni, Texas. She is also survived by five great-nieces and nephews: Blake Roberts, Paige Roberts Midness (Haakon), Megan McRae Haislip (Ross), Reid McRae, and Meredith McRae, along with four great-great nieces. Service for Anliza Gibbon will be on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM at The St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 3204 Skillman Street, Dallas, Texas 75206.
