Ann Howarth's Obituary
Ann Howarth was born July 9, 1924 to Ulysses and Margaret Nickel in Edna, Texas. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She had a twinkle in her eye and a smile that would make anyone smile back. She was young at heart and always fun to be with. She was married just six months shy of 50 years to John Howarth who passed away in 1994 from Alzheimer’s. They met during World War II in Cuero, Texas. When she saw him she thought “he was the most handsome man she had ever seen.” When he returned from the war, they built a home in Racine, Wisconsin – his hometown. In a few years, they moved to Dallas, Texas where John attended SMU. Later they would move to Houston and San Antonio and finally settled in Plano, Texas where their children lived. She is survived by her two children: Connie Rhoades (Ron) and their two children Bill Rhoades and Stephanie Williams (Justin) and their two children Liam and Cameron; and Erich Howarth Von Steiner and his daughter Tara Millsap (Brady) and their three children Savannah, Brady, Jr., and Errol. Ann was an accomplished cook. Her lemon meringue pies were always requested, and she was the official gravy maker every Thanksgiving and Christmas. She loved using her china, crystal, and silver and would always set a beautiful table. Her home was always filled with fresh cut roses from her garden. She definitely had a green thumb and could tell you the names of most flowers and trees. She was also a talented seamstress. Playing Mah Jongg and dominoes were favorite pastimes. Once her children were grown, she became a successful businesswoman with her husband in San Antonio. During this time, she and her husband traveled extensively including a trip through the Panama Canal. She loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Before her last visit to the hospital, she was able to see her newest great-grandchild which made her whole face just light up. A visitation and service will be held on Saturday, July 1st. Visitation starting at 12:00 PM with a service starting at 1:00 PM at Christ United Methodist Church in Plano with a reception immediately following at Gleneagles Country Club, 5401 W. Park Blvd. Plano, Texas 75093. Her family would like to thank A Family Place and Avalon Memory Care for their loving care this past year. A Thank You also to Presbyterian Hospital of Plano who provided care and kindness these past few weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Women’s Council of the Dallas Arboretum (25 Highland Park Village, Suite 100-219, Dallas 75205); the Women’s Auxiliary of the DFW Salvation Army (Post Office Box 36026, Dallas 75235); or Cane Rosso Dog Rescue (canerossorescue.com).
