Nolen, Ann O'Connor's Obituary
Ann O’Connor Nolen, a warm and loving mother, wife, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at age 82 on September 11, 2024, after over a decade of suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Ann was born on August 12, 1942, to Nell Cox O’Connor and Claude O’Connor in Mobile, Alabama, where she later graduated from Murphy High School and attended Spring Hill College. In May 1965, Ann married John E. Nolen, III, in Mobile. After living in Houston and San Jose, California, she, John, and their children Susan and Steve settled in Dallas in 1976. Blessed with an upbeat, outgoing personality and a spontaneous wit, Ann became a very successful and dedicated realtor for more than 25 years with Ebby Halliday.
In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling to multiple continents, playing bridge with her many friends, volunteering her cooking skills at Ronald McDonald House, attending her monthly book club, and being a member of the Northwood Woman’s Club. Ann was well-known for her love of good conversation, her sense of fun, her indulgence of her dogs (including Darcy, Bella, Bama, and Bubba) and, always, her deep care for friends and family.
Ann was preceded in death in 2019 by her husband and life partner of 54 years, John Nolen, who provided loving care and support for her in her battle with dementia. She is survived by her daughter Susan Nolen Foushee of Westport, CT and her husband Scott; her son Stephen Nolen of Richardson and his wife Erin; and her five grandchildren: Kyle, Connor, and Kaitlyn Nolen and Riley and Henry Foushee. She is also survived by her brother Claude O’Connor of Gulf Shores, AL; her brothers-in-law Robert and Thomas Nolen; her sister-in-law Cheryl Nolen; her niece and nephew, Whitney Husemoller and Spencer Nolen; and her great-nephews Isaac Carpio and Noah Lopez. The entire family extends their thanks to the staff of Highland Springs for their care for her over the past ten years.
A memorial service will be held at the Wildwood Chapel of Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue on Sunday, November 24th, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ann’s name for Alzheimer’s research to UT Southwestern, Peter O’Donnell, Jr. Brain Institute, 5323 Harry Hines Boulevard, Dallas, TX 75390
