Ann Williams Schroeder's Obituary
Ann Williams Schroeder passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, in Dallas, TX after a long and hard-fought battle with several maddening diseases. She was 83.
She was born June 26, 1940, in Murphy, Texas to Charles Perry and Jennie Lou Williams. She was a proud alumnus of Garland High School (Class of 1958) and graduated with multiple degrees from Texas Women’s University and Baylor College of Dentistry.
Ann was an avid adventurer and there was never any dust under her heels. After her fierce attempt to become one of the first female Dentists in Dallas, she was convinced to become a Dental Hygienist instead. Times were different…. After graduating with her Hygienist degree and license, the winds took her to Los Alamos, New Mexico where she worked for several years. While there, Ann realized just how far it actually was between her home in Garland, TX to Los Alamos, so she took flying lessons and would rent a plane to help with her commute home.
After her time in Los Alamos, Ann moved to join a new dental practice in Midland, TX where she met her then husband, Bill Schroeder. Ann and Bill married on June 6, 1966. After several years, Bill’s job transferred him to Arlington, TX and, once again, Ann picked up and moved without hesitation or worry. In July of 1972, Ann and Bill welcomed their first (and only) child, William F. (Trey) Schroeder, III.
Ann, Bill and Trey moved to Weatherford, TX in 1976 to start their own paint and carpet store, The Color Center. Being the “Challenge Accepted” person that she was, Ann temporarily hung up her dental scrubs and learned how to mix paint and tile floors. She co-owned and operated the Color Center for 15 years until she divorced Bill and moved to the next chapter of her life.
After a decade and a half away from a dental practice, Ann went back to what she professionally loved most, teeth. Ann spent several more years working for a dental practice in Weatherford before coming home to Garland in 1991, where she worked as a hygienist for another 15 years. She retired at 65, reconnected with her childhood friends and began traveling the world.
Ann read a book a day, played competitive tennis for 60 years, listened to anyone who would talk and raised a son who has maintained his moral compass. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Godspeed Mom/Nana!
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jennie Lou Williams and her best friend/sister-in-law, Sue Williams.
Survivors include her favorite brother, Don Williams of Tom Bean, TX; son, William Frederick (Trey) Schroeder, III and wife, Amy and their four children, William, Bennett, Catherine and Elizabeth; niece Robin Williams Garcia and her husband, Adrian; nephew Danny Williams and wife, Shawn and their two children, Lane and Perry.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, November 28th at noon in the Wildwood Chapel on the Restland Cemetery grounds, followed by a reception. The family will have a private graveside service at a later time.
