Anna Louise Rutherford's Obituary
Anna Louise Rutherford died on March 12, 2015 at age of 108 years of age. She was born November 18, 1906 in Terrell, Texas where she lived with her parents Walter P. Allen and America Peyroux Cartwright Allen through high school. Growing up in a small town atmosphere with her four older siblings permitted a safe setting allowing her to ride her pony to school, to the drugstore on Main Street and to the houses of friends. On occasions she enjoyed riding in her father’s steam driven auto, which was the first car in Kaufman County. Her banker father was close friends with Colonel Edward Green, the only son of renowned female tycoon, Hetty Green. Mr. Green took Anna Louise and family on a trip out west during the developing days of that area in his personal Pullman railroad car. A few encounters with native American Indians left lasting memories with her. After high school, Anna Louise attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where she became a member of the Pi Beta Phi social sorority. While in school she met her future husband, Ewell R. Rutherford. They married in 1929 and remained very compatibly so for 65 years until Ewell’s death in 1994. During the marriage, from 1932 to 1992 they lived in the community of Forrest Hills near White Rock Lake at the same address for 60 years. Throughout this period, their numerous travels carried them to places all over the world. During the WWII war years, Anna Louise did volunteer work at the American Red Cross. In 1992 Anna Louise and Ewell moved to The Presbyterian Village North in Dallas for assistant living, where they remained until their deaths. Anna Louise is survived by two sons, W. Alan Rutherford of The Woodlands, Texas together with wife Ann, and Ronald K. Rutherford of Naples, Florida with his wife Suzzette. Anna is also survived by five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, plus three great great grandchildren. There is a memorial service planned for Anna Rutherford on Friday, March 27, at 10:00 AM. It will be at the auditorium of the main building of Presbyterian Village North. From Forest Lane, and across from TI, take Landa Lane to the main entrance of PVN. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
