Annabelle Green's Obituary
Mrs. Annabelle Green of Garland passed away Monday morning, September 6, 2010. Anna was born on December 6, 1924 in Kearney, Nebraska, the daughter of T. C. and Eria Keeter Gilley. She was a graduate of Gibbon High School and attended Kearney State College, now known as the University of Nebraska at Kearney. While in college, Anna was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She met the love of her life, Harry Green, when he was stationed as a B-24 pilot in Kearney. Lt. Green and Annabelle Gilley were married in Houston on June 21, 1945. After the war, they moved to Dallas, Mr. Green’s hometown, and except for two years in the mid-sixties when the family lived in Tripoli, Libya, North Africa, she has remained in the Dallas area since. Anna was very involved in school, community and church activities. She volunteered on PTA boards, was a room mother many times over, and also served as a Brownie and Cub Scout leader. In the community, Anna was a member of the Richardson Republican Women’s Club. In church, she was a decades-long member of Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church, where she worked with the Presbyterian Women’s Association and the Financial Stewardship Commission. Later, as a member of St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church, she served on the same commission. Anna enjoyed fishing, boating, swimming and golf. She was an excellent seamstress, a wonderful cook, and liked making and finishing ceramic art in her own kiln. She loved to read and in her later years, as her eyesight began to fail, became an avid audio book listener. Most of all, Anna enjoyed being surrounded by her beloved family during holidays and other special occasions. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of sixty-five years, Harry; daughter Justin Anne Green Hansen of Bossier City, LA; son Bud and wife Lou Green of Parker; and son Richard and wife Gail Green of Garland. Grandchildren: Michelle Green Clark of Brazoria; Tiffany Hansen Laffitte of Valencia, CA; and Mitch, Brent and Paige Green of Garland. A private interment was held on September 8, 2010 at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas. A memorial service is scheduled for September 11, 2010 at 1:30 P. M. at St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church in Richardson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Anna’s memory to the Macular Degeneration Foundation at their website www.eyesight.org.
