Anne Bradford Bird's Obituary
Anne Bradford Bird was born in Marshville, North Carolina in 1930 and died in Richardson, Texas on April 12, 2025. We say goodbye to a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a friend.
Growing up in Marshville during the harsh years of the Great Depression, Anne learned the value of hard work and resilience early on. As a young girl, she picked cotton, a testament to the strength and determination that would define her life. Despite those challenging beginnings, she possessed an unwavering spirit and a thirst for knowledge.
In 1952, she married Charles David Bird at the Marshville Presbyterian Church, and together they embarked on a journey that took them from North Carolina to Baltimore, Florida, and finally, the great state of Texas. They built a life filled with love and family raising three children.
Her academic achievements were nothing short of exceptional. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a recognition of her outstanding liberal scholarship. She was active in her college life, serving on the Finance Board, as a Senior Marshal, and being elected to several honorary fraternities. She began her career as a member of the Wadesboro High School faculty, sharing her love of learning with others. She worked at the Eugene McDermott Library at the University of Texas at Dallas in the Acquisitions Department from 1976 to 1995 and earned her Master’s degree from the UTD, a testament to her determination and intellect.
She was a woman of deep faith, a devout Presbyterian who found solace and strength in her church community. Her faith guided her actions and shaped her character, providing her with a foundation of compassion and kindness.
She was a devoted grandmother to her three grandchildren, Charles David Bird III, William Roy Bird, Jr., and Joshua Joe Bird. They were the light of her life and words cannot express how much she loved them.
She lived a full and rich life, a life marked by love, resilience, and unwavering faith. She was a woman of grace, intelligence, and unwavering kindness. She faced life’s challenges with courage and strength, and she always found joy in the simple things.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents W.H. Bradford and Blanch Morgan, her sisters Elizabeth Harrell and Carolyn Ford, her husband Charles David ,Bird Sr, and her son Micheal Bradford Bird. She is survived by her sons Charles David Bird, Jr. and William Roy Bird, Sr, her daughter-in-law Sandra Yvette Bird, and her three grandsons Charles David Bird III, William Roy Bird, Jr., and Joshua Joe Bird, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on May 1, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. Funeral services will be held at Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at 3 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home.
