We were so saddened to hear of Annelies's death. We had the priviledge of working with Annelies at the Dallas Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was a great humanitarian that faithfully gave her time and energy to help her community in their time of need. Annelies was a great teacher. As a nurse she taught us how to provide needed medical services to disaster clients. We hope the family takes comfort in knowing that many disaster clients' lives were positively affected by Annelies' kindness. Our condolences.

I was so very sorry to learn today of the loss of Annelies. She was my number one volunteer at the Red Cross for many years and was an invaluable asset to both the staff there and countless clients. So many people benefited from her caring assistance, and often also from her ability to speak Spanish and even German! Not only did she help with military and disaster clients, but she also was invaluable during 9/11 and Katrina, helping with a wide variety of tasks during those challenging times. Annelies and I continued our long friendship after she left the Red Cross, usually visiting around the time of her birthday. Our last visit was on March 5. She looked wonderful as always and we had such a nice visit. She was still so sharp and so animated...it was hard to believe she was about to turn 99! She was a strong and amazing woman and a very special friend. She will be missed very much. May God bless and comfort all of her family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
