Anthony "Tony" Thompson Smith's Obituary
Tony passed away on the morning of November 9, 2015. Born in Copperas Cove, TX on May 7, 1975, he spent most of his childhood in El Paso, TX. He could often be found outside riding his dirt bike and exploring the nearby mountains and desert. Tony and his mother were heavily involved in the Save The Chimps sanctuary in Alamogordo, NM. He moved to Dallas, TX at age 19 and began working in the semi-conductor industry. His engineering background led to a love of figuring out how things work and he could often be found working on a project or fixing things for loved ones. Tony was a quiet person until you got to know him and discovered his lightning fast dry humor. He had a giving heart and was quick to help anyone in need. Tony met Gillian “Gilli” Long in 2007 through mutual friends and quickly fell in love. They shared a love of animal rescue, camping and weekend adventures to new places. Tony and Gilli were married on June 30, 2012 in their church in Richardson, TX. They were involved in Great Dane rescue and opened their home to many foster dogs. Anthony is survived by his wife, Gillian, mother and step-father, Julene and Bruce Suttles, his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Cheryl Smith, and his niece and neph-ew, Madeline and Jasper Smith. He will also be mourned by his father and step-family in California and Florida. A memorial service for Tony Smith will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Richardson on Fri-day, November 13, 2015 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Save The Chimps (http://www.savethechimps.org) in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
