Mr. Archie Edwin Hunter Jr.'s Obituary
HUNTER, JR., ARCHIE E. Born December 12, 1923 in Dallas, Texas to Archie and Halley Hunter. He died on October 5, 2007. He is preceded I death by his father in 1992 and his mother in 2002 at the age of 102 and his first wife of 45 years in 1995. He survived by his second wife Darlene in Garland and his son Alan Hunter in Kemah, Texas; his daughter Sheri Lentz and her husband Gregg in Garland; his grandson, Jeffrey Simmons and wife Natalie and granddaughters, Shannon Osborn and her husband Matt, Meagan Hunter, Jessica Lentz and Kevin Lentz and 5 great grandchildren. Also, by his sister, Nancy Gilmore and husband Lloyd in Dallas and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Also, by his wife’s children, son, Chad Bridgeford; daughter, Patricia Manson and her husband George and her grandchildren, Casey, Trey, Matt, Ethan and Connor. Archie graduated from North Dallas High School in June 1941. He worked for Southland Life Insurance for a year before enlisting in the Army Air Corp in 1942 and was transferred to the Signal Corp and served at air bases in Texas until going over seas in 1943. He served in the 72 Signal _________and the 112 Airborne Signal _____ for two years in England, France and Germany. After the war, he worked for insurance companies until 1960 when he started his own insurance agency in Dallas. In 1972, he became a partner in Roach-Howard-Smith and Hunter Insurance until his retirement in 1999. He was active in the insurance industry having served on the Board of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas and a Regional Vice President of the Independent Agents of Texas. He was active in school affairs and the PTA having served as President of Charles A. Gill and Bryan Adams PTA’s and was awarded a life membership in both the Texas and National PTA. He was also a life member of the VFW. He has been a member of Casa Linda Methodist Church for 45 years. Archie was a member of tahe Alexander C. Garrett Masonic Lodge 1216, The Scottish Rite and York Rite Masonic Organizations and Hella Temple Shrine. Visitation will be 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Monday, October 8, 2007 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at Restland Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow at Restland Memorial Park.
