Arthur Lavergne's Obituary
Arthur Joseph Lavergne Jr., “Grandaddy”, aka King Arthur Saint Joseph Mr. Lavergne Jr. of Richardson, Texas joined his heavenly family on June 6, 2016. He was born on October 27th 1922 in Prudhomme, Louisiana to parents Art Sr. and Florence Lavergne. King Arthur is survived by his children Angie Hudnall, Willie Lavergne, Lee Lavergne, Nina Tucker,and Aaron Lavergne and their significant others, Don, Brenda, Kerry, and Pedro. His beloved surviving grandchildren are Ashleigh, Westin, Austin, Allie, Tyler, Tanner, and Brittany and their significant others Brad, Rachael, Cameron and Diana. Grandaddy has four great grandchildren: Cayden, Garrett, Harper, and Graham plus two on the way. Art’s three surviving in-laws are Yerby Hughes, Jimmy Hughes, and Carmel Lavergne along with several nieces and nephews. King Arthur was raised in the bayous of Southwest Louisiana. He graduated from Eunice High School, and played the trombone in the High School band. Art was an alligator hunter working in the Devil’s Swamp in Thibodaux, Louisiana until he joined the United States Marine Corps being the first troop into Nagasaki after the second atomic bomb was dropped. Art returned from Japan, and graduated from LSU receiving his BSEE in 1949. Art met the love of his life, Betty Hughes, in 1950 on a tennis date where the match ended in LOVE and lasted until Betty passed in April 2014. Art worked for Sun Oil, Halliburton, and Chevron from 1950 to 1958. He then joined Texas Instruments and moved to Richardson, Texas in 1958 until retiring in 1986. King Arthur had many loves: exercise, church, and family. He served 25 years as Richardson Tennis Commissioner and led the yearly family tennis tournament “Laissez les bon temps rouler.” King Arthur attended 5:30 mass regularly at St. Paul’s Catholic Church and was a lector for over 30 years. Family was important to Art. He loved all of them, and adopted a few: Sandy Manning, Shelly Bauer, Jean Atwood, and Laura Herrera. He always gave thanks to God prior to every meal and family event. He loved his deceased family, Betty Lavergne – Wife, Art Lavergne – Son, Tod Lavergne – Grandson, Irene Bischoff – Sister and Louis Lavergne – Brother. Everyone will remember King Arthur Saint Joseph Mr. Lavergne Jr. for his witty humor, smile, and just a joy to be around. Art’s Celebration of Life will be Saturday, June 25th at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Richardson, TX. Followed by other celebrations.
