He was blessed with the guidance from Father Antoine Nguyen Hong Cam Diocese of Xuan Loc, Vietnam, and Father Nguyen Van Tuyen from the order of CSSR. Father Augustine was ordained in 1970 by Pope Paul VI in The Philippines. In the communist Vietnam, Father Augustine was persecuted by the regime; consequently, was permitted by Bishop Jacob Nguyen Ngoc Quang from the Diocese of Can Tho to leave the country. First escaped to Thailand to serve as priest for fellow Vietnameses, Father Augustine had an opportunity to meet with Pope John Paul II in Panathnikon as a representative for the Vietnamese refugee community in Thailand. Next, Father Augustine relocated to the US in 1985 and served as Pastor in the Diocese of Michigan. Finally, he arrived to Dallas in 1986. Father Augustine was vital in setting up and forming the foundation/establishment of several Vietnamese Catholic communities in the greater Dallas area – mainly the Dallas Diocese.Prior to his retirement, he normally drove to three different communities on Sunday to celebrate masses in native Vietnamese language. His simple approaches and practical messages/sermons resonated with the Vietnamese Catholics. Many refugees who arrived to Dallas during this time would see Father Augustine greeting them at the airport; he subsequently helped to assimilate them to this new and beautiful country. In his heart, we are all spiritual brother/sister in Christ. He had served his people and served well. Even in his suffering during final years, he accepted all physical pain as gifts from God. We love him and will miss him dearly as he rest in peace in the presence of our good Lord.SERVICES DETAILS: CELEBRATION OF LIFE• Blessing of Mourning Garment Mass (Lễ Phát Tang) Thursday 11/29/2018, 10:00AM atRestland Funeral Home and Cemetery13005 Greenville AveDallas, TX 75243Map: https://www.google.com/maps/place/13005+Greenville+Ave,+Dallas,+TX+75243/@32.9235358,-96.7427583,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x864c1f8da8201f5d:0xd56fc7cda7e68d73!8m2!3d32.9235358!4d-96.7405696• Visitation, Prayer and Rosary Sessions (Đọc Kinh) atRestland Funeral Home and CemeteryThursday 11/29/2018, 10:00AM- 4:00PMFriday 11/30/2018, 10:00AM – 1:00PM]• There will be 2 Funeral Masses (Lễ Tang)Friday 7:00 PM at St Peter Vietnamese Catholic Church Dallas(Giáo Xứ Thánh Phêrô – Giáo Phận)10123 Garland RoadDallas, TX 75218214-321-9493 https://www.stpetervndal.org/Saturday 8:oo AM at Mother of Perpetual Help Parish (Vietnamese Catholic Church)(Giáo Xứ Đức Mẹ Hằng Cứu Giúp)2121 W.
