Aulty Verdell Veal's Obituary
Aulty Veal, age 90, passed away April 23, 2016 at his home. He was born in Cement, Oklahoma, July 18th, 1925. . Excess energy in his youth brought about his nickname, “Perk.” He was a lifelong outdoorsman, squirrel hunting being one of his’ favorite past times. Aulty grew up mastering the slingshot. People have seen him taking down rabbits and flying birds with a slingshot. If he was not hunting, he was at Lake Texoma and all lakes south of the Red River fishing. He enjoyed raising hounds and competing in local and national coon hunt competitions. He had won competitions and trophies. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Serving from Oct.1943-Jan.1946.Seaman First Class Veal was on the USS Astabula. He fought gallantly as a gunman in the 3rd fleet task force, surviving torpedo attacks from the Japanese. He is preceded in death by his mother, Odessa Veal Long; father, Aulty Carl Veal; brother, Lee Roy Veal; half sister, Camilla J. Huddleston; half brother, Wayne M. Huddleston. Aulty is survived by his wife, Bessie Mae McGraw Veal of 57 years. Children Charles R. Beck, Danny Ray Beck, Patricia McNary, Aulty D. Veal, William C. Veal and Jimmy C. Veal. Also sister in laws, Betty Jean Veal and Mary Rodgers; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 13 great- great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A devout Christian, he was called home to be with his Lord and Savior. Funeral Service for Aulty will take place at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 29, 2016 in The Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
