Barbara Kay Gaines Cannon's Obituary
Barbara Kay Gaines Cannon was born on February 1, 1944 in Dallas, Texas to George and Katherine Gaines. She passed away suddenly on March 26, 2023 in Plano, Texas at the age of 79. Barbara was a graduate of South Oak Cliff High School. She worked for the Richardson Independent School District for over 25 years, working her way from library aide at North Junior High to administrative assistant for the computer instruction department. After leaving RISD, she continued her career at Wireless Generation before retiring. She was a longtime member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) service organization. She and her husband, Tom, raised their three daughters in Richardson, Texas before moving to Plano in 1998. Barbara and Tom loved to travel and cruised to numerous foreign destinations. She was the main architect of all the family vacations, taking the whole family to amazing places like Hawaii, Orlando, Paris, London and Cancun. Unfortunately, Tom’s stroke in 2013 put an end to their travels and she became his full-time caregiver until his death in December 2022. Barbara was blessed with one grandson, seven granddaughters, two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. These kids were the light of her life. Nothing made her smile more than seeing or hearing from them. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Cynthia Cannon, and her two brothers, Don Gaines and Darwin Gaines. She is survived by her daughters, Carla Jones (Danny) and Susan Cannon, 8 grandchildren, Ryan Jones (Trysten), Becky Pentecost (Seeley), Rachel Navas (Jude), Robin Jones, Rylie Jones, Zoe Lugo, Claire Lugo and Mia Lugo, and 3 great-grandchildren, Charlotte Pentecost, Graham Pentecost and Makenna Jones.
