Barbara Jean Carrell's Obituary
Barbara Jean Carrell passed away on October 17, 2014. She was born October 7, 1938 in Cooper, Texas. Shortly thereafter, she and her parents moved to Dallas where she attended elementary school, Boude Story Jr. H. and South Oak Cliff H.S. graduating in 1957. She attended NTSU receiving B.S. and Masters Degrees. She started teaching Business at Kimball H.S. in Oak Cliff in 1961 and later became a Guidance Counselor. Wanting to get back in the classroom and have more one on one interaction with the students, she transferred to Bryan Adams H.S. in 1977; she remained there until her retirement in 1993. She loved her students and stayed in touch with many of them for years. Her intention was to work another 5 to 10 years in the business world but health issues prevented that. She was an active member in the Vanguard Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association from 1967 to 2013 holding various positions including President three times. Barbara accepted Jesus as her Savior at age 14 and was an active member in various congregations, most recently the Highland Oaks Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey and Gladys Carrell. She is survived by an abundance of cousins and dear friends who have treasured her kindness, cheerfulness, sympathy and goodwill for decades. The service for Barbara Carrell will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 12:30 PM in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home with a visitation preceding the service at 11:45 AM, Burial to follow at Restland Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75238. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. would be appreciated.
