Barbara Jean Darden's Obituary
Mrs. Barbara J. Darden, daughter of the late Beatrice and Raymond Alexander was born August 15, 1933 in Dallas, Texas. She attended public schools of Dallas County and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Hamilton Park Methodist Church, where she was a dedicated member for many years.
She was united in holy matrimony to R.C. Darden on June 19, 1948. This union was blessed with three children. R.C. Darden preceded her in death on December 14, 2003.
Barbara grew up in a single parent home and at an early age assisted her mother with taking care of her siblings. That devotion lead her into the field of nursing after she married, she had a desire to further her education. She attended a vocational nursing school and became a certified LVN nurse. During her career she worked for Parkland Hospital for 35 years and Richardson General Hospital for 10 years. Barbara retired from nursing to become the caregiver to her husband until he was called home to be with the Lord. During her later years, the love of nursing followed as she assisted mothers with infant childcare and worked part time in retail.
Barbara was an avid member of her community and was always a comfort to everyone that knew her. She was known to bake her specialty strawberry cake and other pastries for those who were dear to her heart. Barbara loved the Lord and her family. Barbara departed quietly from this life when God whispered “job well done” on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at The Hillcrest of North Dallas. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael W. Darden, her sister, Shirley Alexander, her brothers, Raymond Alexander, Jr., Lewis Alexander, and Julius Alexander.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Richard C. (Alice) Darden of Garland, Texas, and Shirley A. Darden of Dallas, Texas; a host of devoted grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
