Barbara Ann Drill's Obituary
The only daughter born to Dr. and Mrs. John Knox Bowling, was born on November 11, 1933, in Duncan, Oklahoma, where her father served as a Presbyterian minister. Music was an important part of the Bowling household. Her mother, Lula Ann, was an accomplished musician, singing in the church choir, playing the piano and organ and teaching piano, organ and voice lessons. Barbara’s musical talent was apparent early in her life, and she began studying music. During the Bowling pastorates at the Northridge and Lakewood Presbyterian Churches in Dallas, Barbara became the church organist while still a student at Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas. Upon graduation, she enrolled in Southern Methodist University School of Music and earned a Bachelor of Music degree. While at SMU, she became a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Upon graduation, she became a teacher of music in various Dallas Public Schools and at The Hockaday School, and taught private piano lessons to many generations of students, while serving as organist at numerous Dallas churches. Her first marriage was to James Lawrence Kiniry and they had two sons. Her second marriage was to Lewis Stewart Drill. She is survived by a brother, John Knox Bowling Jr. of Litchfield, CT, two sons, Daniel Knox Kiniry of Houston and John Michael Kiniry of Dallas, two grandchildren, Christopher Knox Kiniry of Dallas and Kevin Ryan Kiniry of Houston, a grand niece, Tanisha Bowling Carrell and her daughter, Caitlin Carrell of Kansas City, KS. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Restland Wildwood Chapel with visitation 1 hour prior starting at 9:00 am in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tender Loving Elderly Care, 14830 Deer Park Lane. Whitehouse, TX 75791. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
