Barbara Jo Bailey was born on June 7,1938 to Vivian Eugene Bailey and Celia Day Bailey and passed away peacefully June 21,2024. Barbara was preceded in death by her mother and father and survived by her three children; Eileen Suzanne Edwards, Erik Scott Edwards and Mark Richard Edwards.
Barbara graduated from Woodrow Wilson high school . Barbara graduated from SMU with a major in history and education. She briefly worked at DISD teaching history. She married a young lawyer in 1959 named George Richard Edwards. Together, they had one daughter and two sons.
Barbara later followed in her realtor mother’s footsteps and sold real estate for a number of years. Barbara volunteered tirelessly for many organizations among them: Dallas Lawyers Wives for many years in various positions including board member, secretary and Vice President. Dallas Alumnae Zeta Tau Alpha at SMU in board member and President for ten plus years. President of Brookhaven Women’s Tennis Association. Committee Chair Les Femme du Monde. After Barbara's first husband passed away, she was married to Robert Fredrick Hunter a long-time friend from Woodrow Wilson until his passing last year.
Barbara was a member of St Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church and later Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. As her health declined Barbara maintained her spirituality with online services.
Essentially Barbara was a beautiful well put together, selfless, caring, private and spiritual person.
It is only fitting that today she is buried with her parents that she loved and respected immensely. In her last days it was only appropriate that Barbara was surrounded by her three children and good friends and caretakers Grace Garcia and Latricia Reed. She thought so highly of and loved these ladies. Additionally, she so loved “second daughters”, Erik’s fiancé Lisa Patterson and Eileen's lifelong friend Sally McDonald Berven.
Barbara's love, compassion, humility and faith in God provides a foundation for her everlasting home in Gods Kingdom.
