Barbara Johnson's Obituary
Barbara Lea Johnson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and daughter returned home to our Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
Barbara was born on August 2, 1940, in Lafayette, Louisiana daughter of the late Jesse Lee Jones and Geneva Jones (Gary). She was predeceased by her stepfather, Louis W. Miller and son, Charles David Caldwell. Barbara is survived by two children: daughter, Cheryl Caldwell of Dallas, TX and son, Curtis Caldwell and wife Claire of Bardwell, TX. Four grandchildren survive: Chloe Vaughn-Shihadeh (Rami) of Houston, Marshall Vaughn of Dallas, Cara Caldwell-Harty (Ben) of Bayfield, Colorado, and Caitlin Caldwell of Oklahoma City, OK. Also surviving is one great grandson, Grayson Tate Harty.
Barbara was raised in Del City, OK as the only child of her mother and stepfather and was the apple of their eyes throughout their lives. Growing up she was thoughtful and curious, enjoyed reading and loved learning. She played clarinet in her school band, performed on the drill team, and was involved in many clubs / social activities, and graduated from Del City High School as a member of the National Honor Society.
As a young woman, Barbara married and traveled the world as the wife of a military officer, raising her family along the way. During this time, she was determined to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and graduated from Central
State University in Oklahoma. In 1967, the family moved to Carrollton-Farmers Branch where Barbara resided the rest of her life. She dedicated over ten years as a teacher in the CFB Independent School District at McLaughlin Elementary. In 1987, she received a Master of Science in Management and Administrative Services from the University of Texas at Dallas and was hired into a leadership position by UTD’s Continuing Education Department. After retiring from UTD, Barbara decided to take a position at the Greenhill School as Director of Summer Programs to fill her time.
Barbara was a passionate advocate for education and especially the advancement of young girls and women into STEM and Engineering. She was an active leader and member of A.A.U.W. (American Association of University Woman) for decades.
Barbara was a lifelong Methodist and was a faithful member at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Carrollton. She served in many positions from the Giving Garden to the Women of Wisdom Study Group, as well as helped establish the Church Library. She will be remembered for her kindness, class, and dignity. She had a gift for relating to people from all backgrounds and was always willing to lend an ear and offer comfort and encouragement. She was a role model and a true lady in every sense of the word.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Aldersgate Foodshare Ministry in her honor.
A memorial service will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church
