Barbara Jones' Obituary
Barbara Walton Jones was the oldest of three children born to Alexander Woodrow Wilson Walton and Mary Gladys Walton on October 6, 1932. Born and raised in Drakes Branch,Virginia, Barbara moved to Montclair, New Jersey in 1953 where she married, James E. Jones, Sr. on August 8, 1959. Barbara and “Jimmy” made Montclair their home for more than 35 years and raised their family there. During most of her adult life in New Jersey, Barbara was a faithful member of Brookdale Baptist Church in Bloomfield, New Jersey. For the past 12 years, Barbara lived in Richardson, Texas, where she was an active member of Trinity Bible Church.Barbara accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 11 years at the Organ Hill Baptist Church in Drakes Branch, Virginia. She went on to lead a life glorifying the Lord until her Homegoing on July 26, 2018. Barbara worked as a secretary and was especially fond of her time working at the Sudan Interior Mission, First Presbyterian Church in Orange, New Jersey and Brookdale Christian School in Bloomfield, New Jersey.After a brief illness, Barbara went Home to be with the Lord on July 26, 2018 where she is reunited with the late James E. Jones, Sr, her husband of 41 years and her beloved late son, Mark Jones. Barbara will forever be remembered by her devoted son James E. Jones,Jr. and daughter-in-law, Audrey L. Anderson; loving daughter Theresa T. Jones; adoring daughter-in-law Rebecca Jones; grandchildren Nathan Jones, Alex Jones, Asher Jones, Lindsay and TJ Jackson; loyal sister, Gladys Bernice Garrett; dedicated brother Winfred Walton and sister-in-law Marva Walton; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and dear friends.Barbara was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She had an unwavering faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and devoted her entire life to serving Him faithfully. Barbara started every morning with a hot cup of coffee and quiet time in the Word, praying for her children, grandchildren and many others whom she loved. She enjoyed meaningful conversation and poured into the lives of so many. Family was important to Barbara and she loved spending time around the table enjoying good food—especially, her favorite: fried catfish! Barbara served others through her church as a deaconess, taking an active part in the women’s ministry and being a part of the Berean Sunday school class. She loved being a part of the Wednesdaynight Prayer and Praise group and playing games once a month with the Groan-Up’s here at Trinity, where she was a master player at Mexican Train Dominoes! Barbara will be laid to rest with her late husband, James E. Jones, Sr. at Rosedale Cemetery in Montclair, New Jersey on August 8, 2018, the 59th anniversary of their marriage.
