Barbara Tate Kain's Obituary
BARBARA TATE KAIN
Born in Gallup, New Mexico on March 21, 1936
Departed on December 31, 2023
Barbara Kain left this life to be with her Lord and Savior after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
She is the daughter of Dorothy (Rutherford) and Mac Dicken.
Barbara spent her formative years in Dallas, Texas. She attended Bradfield Elementary School as well as Highland Park Junior and Senior High Schools. Barbara went to college at Southern Methodist University where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. More importantly, she met the love of her life, Pat Kain, while on a blind date during her SMU years. They married on August 17, 1956, in the Perkins Chapel on the SMU campus. Pat later joined the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in Quantico, Virginia. Later, he served at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California, and achieved the rank of Captain. Pat and Barbara continued to travel for many decades with the lifetime friends they made during their Marine Corps life.
The Kains lived in Riverside, California, and Westlake Village, California, where Pat worked as Vice President of the Life and Casualty Department at Aetna Insurance in Los Angeles.
They moved to Richardson, Texas, in 1970.
Barbara and Pat remained lifelong friends with their Highland Park schoolmates, Marine Corps family and neighbors in Richardson.
Barbara was loving, generous, gentle and kind. She was an excellent athlete. Barbara loved playing tennis, swimming and gardening. She was adventurous, loved sunshine and the ocean, artistic and creative.
Barbara and Pat loved taking care of their grandchildren who lovingly called them Manny and Pappa.
She loved traveling, especially to their second home in Destin, Florida. Barbara used her gift of empathy often and worked part-time over a 25-year span for the Minirith-Meier Clinic and later the Davisson Clinic.
Barbara was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She and Pat were very involved in ministries at Fellowship Bible Church and at Trinity Bible Church, both located in Richardson.
Barbara became a member of SAG-AFTRA in 1979 and was also part of the Kim Dawson Modeling Agency. She used her beauty and vivacious personality in many commercials, industrial films, movies, modeling shoots and television shows. Her greatest claim to fame was playing J. R. Ewing's nurse following him being shot on the hit series "Dallas".
Barbara will forever in our hearts be missed until we are reunited with her in Heaven.
She is preceded in death by: her loving husband, Pat Kain; her mother, Dorothy Tate Nicholas Collier; her father, Mac Dicken; and many beloved aunts, uncles and friends.
Barbara is survived by: her son, Joe (Arleen) Kain; her daughter, Laura (Jerry) Schwartz; grandchildren Jake Kain, Dr. Joshua (Raeann) Kain, David Schwartz and Misty (Shannon) Kelton; her great-grandchildren Noah Kain, Haylee Schwartz, Hillaree (Colton) Barham, Jordan (Erin) Kelton, Scotty Kelton and Walker Schwartz; her great-great-grandchildren, Hattie Jo Kelton and Brady Barham; and many cousins and friends.
