Barbara Joyce Routt Laska's Obituary
Barbara passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at UT Southwestern. She was 93.
Barbara was born in Dallas, Texas to Mary Velma Vernon Routt and James O’ Neal Routt. She graduated from North Dallas High School and Southern Methodist University. At SMU, she met and married Edward Harold Laska in Perkins Chapel. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Liberal Arts Degree.
She began her teaching career at Akiba Yavneh Academy then moved to DISD. She was an elementary school teacher for 41 years.
She adored her family and friends, loved her home in Oak Cliff, enjoyed traveling to Los Angeles to visit her son, was a huge dog and cat lover, and loved attending her Episcopal Church.
Barbara was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Vernon Routt McBride (H’ Lee), her brother James O’Neal Routt Jr (Helen), and her niece Lee Anne McBride.
Barbara is survived by her partner, Tommy Jones, her son, David Laska and son, Michael Laska (Jony), her niece, Cindy Losak (Bill) and family Brian, Lauren, and Rachel; her niece, Janice Normile (Billy Jack) and family Jennifer, Scott, and Blake; and nephew, James O’Neal Routt III (Lois), and family Heather, Stephanie, and Deborah.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Incarnation, Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 3:00pm in the Memorial Chapel, 3966 McKinney Ave, Dallas, Texas, 75204
