Barbara Rose Magee's Obituary
Barbara Rose Beard Magee, 91, died on October 18, 2019 in Stuart, Florida. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on January 9, 1928 to Rose Wheaton and Charles E. Beard. Her family lived in Toledo, Oklahoma City and then Dallas as they followed her father’s career with Braniff International Airways, where he served as President from 1954-1965.She graduated from Vickery Hillcrest High School, in Dallas, TX where she was the first homecoming queen. She attended the University of Colorado (Pi Beta Phi) and then transferred to Southern Methodist University, after she met the love of her life, Navy veteran, Jefferson Davis Magee III. They married on September 9, 1949. Together they raised three children where she focused her talents on creating a nurturing and loving home.Barbara was a life-long member of the Episcopal church where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Altar Guild, and Women’s Auxilary. She also belonged to the Dallas Service Station Wives Auxilary and the Junior League of Dallas. For over sixty years she gathered with her high school friends, The Pink Toes, for an annual Christmas brunch. Barbara had a commitment to volunteering and a love for gardening, quilting, birdwatching and photography.She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother (Robert D. Beard) and daughter-in-law (Jo Retzloff Magee). She is survived by, Robert C. Magee (Little Rock, AR), Laura Magee Buchanan (Allen,TX) , and Molly Magee (Stuart, FL) ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their families.Her children would like to thank her loving and compassionate caregivers at Stuart Nursing and Rehabilitation.Funeral service will be held at Restland Wildwood Chapel November 9, 2019 at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to Easter Seals of Arkansas for the benefit of Butler House in honor of Bobby Magee or JDRF “Juvenile Diabetes Research” in honor of Colton Buchanan
