Barbara Reese's Obituary
Barbara Jan Reese née Minner of Dallas, Texas passed peacefully on Thursday, September 17, 2020. She is the daughter of Harry Herbert Minner and Maybelle Marie Westcott Minner. Barbara had an older sister (Norma) and a younger brother (Ronald). Over the course of their lives they were more like best friends that traveled together, visited, and stayed in touch, and never became distant over time.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband John Jefferson Reese, Sr, siblings Norma Jean Bryant and Ronald Joseph Minner, and grandchild Jennifer Marie Cooke. Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Jan Marie Tyra (Wife of Joe Tyra) and Laura Lu Figura
(Wife of Todd Figura), and son John Jefferson Reese, Jr. as well as her grandchildren Michael, Amanda, Jacob, Chloe, and Lauren and great-grandchildren James III and Jordyn. Barbara married John J. Reese Sr. on November 22, 1955. She lived a full and blessed life as a dedicated and tireless wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Her proudest achievements in life were being a loving wife and mother, and contributing to the lives of her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
Barbara graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1950. Then, after working downtown for the City of Dallas, she met John Sr. on a blind date at White Rock Lake and they were married soon after. Barbara was a member of St. Monica’s Guild at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Dallas, a member of the Horseless Carriage Club of America, a Camp Fire Girl leader, a Girl Scout Troop leader, a PTA room. She had many hobbies and interests including designing and sketching fashionable women’s clothing, painting, sewing, collecting Shirley Temple memorabilia, swimming, playing canasta,
antiquing, socializing with friends, and traveling. Thanksgiving and Christmas were Barbara’s favorite holidays. She always began preparations and lavish decorating early in the season and unfailingly made these holidays memorable for family, kids, grandkids and great-grandkids who enjoyed decades of holiday celebrations in the family home. We miss you, our dear Mother, and are forever grateful for always putting your family first, always offering to do more for us, and always giving and giving more without a second thought or complaint.
