Barbara Arlyn Shuford Bingham's Obituary
BINGHAM, BARBARA ARLYN SHUFORD known in her younger days as ‘Arlene’, and later as ‘Bobbie’, Barbara, at age 88, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014, in Carrollton, Texas after a lengthy illness. Born in Dale, Texas on May 9, 1925 to Asa Brockman Crosthwait and Ethel Nancy Campbell Crosthwait, Barbara lived at every pole in the United States – north, south, east and west. Her states of residence included Texas, California, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Indiana. Barbara outlived three husbands. The first, William B. “Bill” Shuford, died in September 1981 after 40 years of marriage. With Bill, she had twelve children, of which nine survive. Husband two, Ben S. Bingham, of Silverton, Texas, died in February 1998. Her last love, Ira D. “Rudy” Mullin, of Turkey, Texas, died in February 2010. In 1971, after decades of raising children, Barbara joined the working world, ultimately retiring in 1985 from Liquid Paper Corporation where she worked for years as a color match specialist, and finally supervisor over the Special Match Department. Barbara knew how to live. Barbara’s beaming smile, zest for life, and upbeat demeanor could lift the spirits of even the most dejected among us, earning her many friends. She had numerous interests, including a voracious appetite for reading, a love for both classical and country music, country style dancing, antique collecting, crocheting, sewing, knitting, and other home handicrafts. She was a kind and caring person who her family loved dearly. Survivors include an older sister, Beatrice L. Bea” Jecmenek, 95, of New Waverly, Texas; and nine children, Lauralyn Wares, John D. Shuford, Thomas G. “Tom” Shuford, Christopher W. “Chris” Shuford, Steven R. “Steve” Shuford, Charles B. “Chuck” Shuford, leslie E. McFarland, David B. “Bryan” Shuford, and Robin A. Bill, who are scattered throughout Texas. Survivors also include numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and three nieces. In addition to her three husbands, she was preceded in death by her three oldest children, Patricia G. “Pat” Bell, Terry S. Shuford, and Claude L. Shuford; several grand-children, and three siblings: Hazel M. Crosthwait, Audrey B. “Dutch” Crosthwait, and Nana C. “Nan” Robinson. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Restland Funeral Home, Dallas, Texas. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held Monday, January 27, 2014 at 2:30 PM in Restland Memorial Chapel, with — officiating. Interment with her first husband will follow immediately at Restland Memorial Park in the Garden of the Trinity.
