Barbara A. Whitworth's Obituary
Barbara Whitworth, 69, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at Medical City Dallas Hospital. Barbara was born in Akron Ohio on August 14, 1947, to Harold and Mary Louise Taylor. Barb attended Kenmore High School and graduated in 1965. She went on to earn her degree in Christian Education from Moody Bible Institute of Chicago in 1968. As a young woman, Barb was involved in Youth for Christ during her high school years as well as an active member of her family’s congregation, Goss Memorial Church. In her college years at Moody, Barb fell in love with what would become her passion, Campus Crusade for Christ. She went on to become full-time staff for Crusade at both the University of Colorado at Boulder, and later the University of Oklahoma in Norman. In the early 70’s, CCC sent Barbara Taylor to Dallas for Explo ’72 where she met, fell in love with, and soon after married fellow Crusader, Louis Whitworth of Bastrop, Louisiana. They decided to call Dallas “home.” Shortly thereafter they joined the staff of Probe Ministries. Barb and Lou then had their three children, Stephanie, Stuart, and Stacy. Barbara had a personality larger than life, and her contagious chipper spirit lit up every room she entered. She simply loved all people and had a tender heart for anyone lost, broken, or hurting. She was also known to frequently rescue and adopt animals. But perhaps the most prominent characteristic of Barb’s outgoing personality was her overwhelming joy in sharing the good news of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with everyone she met. Barb provided a fulfilling and joyful home for her husband and children. She felt blessed to be loved by such a wonderful godly man, and she strove to instill the love of God into her children’s hearts. Barb is survived by her husband of 42 years, Lou Whitworth, her three children Stephanie, Stuart, and Stacy, her brother Ken Taylor, and her mother Mary Louise Taylor. She is preceded in death by her father, Harold Taylor. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 6:00PM- 8:00PM at Restland Funeral Home located at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 2:00PM at Redeemer Bible Church located at 721 Easton Road, Dallas, Texas, 75218.
