Bernnelle “Barnelle” Stokes Wilson 81, was born April 17, 1941 in Tyler, TX and she entered into eternal rest peacefully in her sleep on August 4, 2022 in Plano, TX.
Barnelle Stokes Wilson was born on April 17, 1941 in Tyler, Texas to Robert Stokes and Gracie Elizabeth Hood Stokes. She was their fourth daughter and had sisters Cleaster Stokes Williams Shigg, Dr. Angie Stokes Runnels and Winnie Stokes Wooley to grow-up with. Barnelle attended school starting at age 5 and graduated from Emmette J. Scott High School in May of 1959.
Barnelle attended Texas College and graduated in May 1963 with a B.S. Degree in Primary Education. She then worked in Dallas, TX at Texas Instruments before accepting her first teaching job in Gallup New Mexico and taught children from a nearby Indian Reservation.
Barnelle married Russell King and had two daughters Lisa Gayle and Tanishya Kelley. She continued her education at University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM and East Texas State in Commerce, TX.
Barnelle was an administrator in the Gallup, NM school system. She moved from Gallup, NM to Dallas, TX after she married Reverend Ronn Wilson where she taught in the Dallas school system.
She later moved from Dallas, TX to Los Angeles, CA where she taught in the Los Angeles School district, and retired from that school system before moving to Richardson, TX.
At the time of her death, she resided in Plano, TX with her oldest granddaughter Chealscey King and youngest grandson Schofar Hill.
Barnelle is survived by her sister Winnie Stokes Wooley of Annapolis, MD; daughters Lisa G. Neal of Fullerton, CA, Tanishya Kelley King-Hill of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren Chealscey N. King of Plano, TX, Lesley Barnelle (Antonio) Harris of Tempe, AZ, Sierra G. Neal of Fullerton, CA, Aurei King-Hill of Tempe, AZ, Eilye-Oshaye Hill of Phoenix, AZ, Jehiel Hill of Coffeyville, KS, Sean Brice Neal of Fullerton, CA and Schofar Hill of Plano, TX; great-grandchildren Londynn Harris, Lylah Harris, Lyric Harris and Ashton Harris. She was lovingly known as, “Granny” by all of her
grandchildren and her great grandchildren and they were the love of her life.
Barnelle was preceded in death by parents Robert Stokes, Gracie Hood Stokes, sisters Cleaster Stokes Williams Shigg, Dr. Angie Stokes Runnels, grandson Adam Neal and niece Charolette Ware.
Barnelle also shared a special relationship with her niece Cynthia Runnels Brown (Larry) of Plano, TX and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends to cherish her memory. Barnelle will be missed, and her memory will forever last in the hearts of all she left behind.
